Story
March 17th 2015 I was diagnosed with AcuteMyeloid Leukaemia. I was the strongest and fittest I’d probably been in mylife. I don’t smoke, I went to the gym 3/4 times a week, I ate a strict healthydiet so you can imagine it came as a huge blow. The treatment for leukaemia isintensive and sometimes chemotherapy just isn’t enough to cure a person of theblood cancer. In those instances a Stem Cell Transplant (SCT) is the final andonly hope of life for the patient. July 2015 it was confirmed that my leukaemiawas of the stubborn and persistent variety therefore I would need a SCT.Anthony Nolan was contacted, in order to find me a donor and they did. Sadly the SCT did not work, Anthony Nolan were again contacted and currently a second SCT is being planned. I’ve decided to fundraise to help Anthony Nolan continue their incredible work towards saving the lives of peoplewith blood cancer & blood disorders.
Anthony Nolan, match extraordinary individuals willing to donatestem cells or bone marrow to people with blood cancer & blood disorders.Anthony Nolan also conducts research into stem cells matches and transplants. To learn more about the charity please use the below link. http://www.anthonynolan.org/
Some utterly amazing and possibly slightly crazy ladies , as well as two lovely gents arerising to the challenge of walking / climbing the 3 Yorkshire Peaks in one daywith me. That’s 23 miles, an accent of 1371m over approximately 12 hours and thereisn’t a nail salon within miles. We propose to do this in May 2016, as I reallyneed all the time to train post my transplant.
We plan to raise £3000 between us. It roughly costs AnthonyNolan £100 to register and maintain a registered donor, so we could help fundup to 30 potential donors.
To me personally supporting us & Anthony Nolan means…..well,to be honest I can’t put what it means into words. To my crazy friends, it alsomeans that you’re behind them all the way and have faith they will complete thechallenge, all be it looking bedraggled and exhausted.
We may raise the money by a variety of methods such as cakesales, raffles etc. but the truth of it is we need donations. So, please, please think about forgoing that Costa coffee, magazine, pint of beer andinstead donate to this worthy cause because if it happened to me it couldhappen to you or a member of your family. All donations small and large arereceived with gratitude. Please don’t forget to tick the gift aid, after allevery penny counts.
