Crohn's Disease and Colitis are horrific inflammatory bowel diseases that are affecting more and more people. Sufferers range in age from as young as two to the elderly. While it is rare to die from either disease, people have died due to complications or through surgery. They are complex illnesses that need more understanding and research.

At some point in their lives, it is extremely likely that a Crohn's or Colitis sufferer will have to give their digestive system a "rest" and will be on an enforced diet consisting of a nutritional drink that contains the vitamins necessary to keep them alive. 

I do NOT have Crohn's Disease or Colitis. I do NOT need to "rest" my digestive system. This is not a challenge that needs to be repeated by anybody else, nor would I recommend this happens as there is the possibility that this could be detrimental to my own health.

There is no cure for Inflammatory Bowel Disease. The only hope is remission with a knowledge that symptoms will return in the future, perhaps as little as six months later. Many medications are weight related and if a patient loses too much weight, the medication will be stopped.

In a show of solidarity with my fiance, who has severe Crohn's Disease, and in an effort to raise awareness and funds for Crohn's and Colitis UK, I will not be taking in any solid food through October. My diet will consist largely of Complan, accompanied by jelly and fully liquid soups.
