Story
Over the next few months i will be training myself up and pushing myself to do the killer mile which is happening on the 10th may. Please help support me in raising funds for the children and young people's services within guide dogs which is a charity close to us as a family. The killer Mile is a one mile route includes a 550 feet climb, with a gradient of up to 25 per cent in places.
In 2015 our little boy was born diagnosed with several eye conditions, Microopthalmia (eyes are abnormally small), retinal and iris Colomboma (missing pieces of tissue in structures that form the eye) and Nystagmus (a condition of involuntary eye movement).
Due to these conditions he has no vision to his left eye and his right eye vision is affected. When diagnosed we did not know what to do, where to gain help or support or how he would be affected through his life. That was when i decided to contact the children and young peoples services within Guide dogs. They have supported Jayden and the family with many different things including day activities to meet others with sight loss and gain face to face contact with others in our situation. They also have supported with 121 home visits giving support, guidance and play therapy sessions. Also they are there whenever I as a parent need to have somebody at the other side of the phone who understands.
Jayden will never gain his vision to his left side and it will affect him throughout his life, but we now have a fantasic support network behind us. The children and young peoples services within Guidedogs will be there for Jayden and ourselves aslong as we need their support and all the staff there are such brilliant, caring people. I would like to help raise funds to help contribute to the amazing work that they do helping other families like ourselves.
Almost two million people in the UK are living with sight loss that has a significant impact on their daily lives. Of those, around 180,000 rarely leave their homes alone and lead lonely, isolated lives. Guide Dogs works for a world where people with sight loss are never left out of life, for a world where being blind or partially sighted is not what defines you. A world with enough support to make the challenges of sight loss no barrier to fulfilling hopes and dreams.
