Story
I will be doing this Ironman to fundraise for Malaria Consortium.
They provide bednets, insecticide spraying, preventative treatments for pregnant women, and communication and education about the disease. My mum had malaria when she lived in Nigeria as a child. She was lucky that she had medical treatment and had the less lethal strain, but this treatment should be universal! This is a completely preventable disease, and with funding should be eradicable.
If you’ve ever looked up the best ‘value’ charities, Malaria Consortium will always come towards the top of the pack. They have also signed up to the International Aid Transparency Initiative, and provide a project database that details each individual project as well as funding and funding sources.
Please take a look at Against Malaria's work at https://www.malariaconsortium.
Their mission statement: "Our work is focused on the control, management and, where appropriate, the eventual elimination of range of diseases - malaria, pneumonia, diarrhoea, dengue and neglected tropical diseases. We balance this focus with other factors that affect child and maternal health, particularly malnutrition"
