Story

Where do I start, at the beginning would be good but that would take far too long so I will start with the day we found out that my lovely nan had lung cancer, devastated, confused, angry, hopeful that they might just might of got it wrong but it was confirmed, they gave my nan weeks to live, the cruel twist was that when she was initially diagnosed she was in such good spirits and unaware of how serious her condition thinking that antibiotics would sort it out (if only), my nan due to the tumour pressing on her oesophagus then lost the ability to eat or drink and so was tube fed with my mom & uncle even getting trained at the hospital how to change her feed and administer her water and medication just so she could come home to be with her family, my nan was unaware she was dying she believed she was coming home to get better which made it all the more heartbreaking,
The days went by with nan slowly getting worse but always her sense of humour and her fighting spirit shining through, now my nan was the biggest Ken Dodd fan on the planet!! She's seen him lots of times has every cd dvd and video he has ever done and she also had tickets for later on this month (June 2015)which my uncle bought her for her birthday in dec last year and she insisted on telling every carer, district nurse or doctor that she was goin to see him and she was determined she would be better for then! knowing that she would never get to see Ken I decided I wanted to do something special for her so I went online and I found the honey rose foundation the only charity in the UK that grant wishes for terminally ill adults over 40, I called and left a message and to my absolute delight they called me back saying they would see what they could do with regards to Ken Dodd, the days went by then I got a call off Chris from the foundation (lovely lady) who said she had fantastic news and that Ken Dodd would be sending my nan something! we were all so excited, And could not wait to find out what, the very next day a parcel arrived and Ken had wrote my nan the loveliest of cards (see photos) and had sent her a book and signed that too, we as a family will cherish that day forever the way it made us all feel including my nan, we were in a difficult time as a family and while we could never fully forget about nans illness we had a welcome break while it was at the back of all our minds just for 1 day and it was so lovely to see my nan so thrilled that Ken Dodd had actually taken the time to write to her, her face actually lit up when she realised, my nan sadly passed away 2 weeks after on the 16th may 2015 8pm peacefully in her sleep surrounded by family and loved ones in her own home where she wanted to be,
This experience has left me realising that life is so very short, your loved ones can be gone in a heartbeat and that I want to make a difference!! so I have decided to trek the Sahara on 10th-15th November 2016 with global adventure challenges, I will be facing the elements both day and night with top temperatures during the day reaching up to 40/50 degrees and night times can drop down to -1 degrees, I will be trekking for 4 days with limited water & stripped of all my home comforts not to mention the desert creepy crawlies & creatures that may wish to spend the night in my tent, I am funding the trip myself so any all money donated 100% will go to the honeyrose foundation as I want other families to have the priceless day or moment that we did as it meant so much to us all, my nan especially! with this in mind give what you can every penny counts for this amazing charity, that from now on will be very close to my heart thanks for reading x x x
