Story
I have applied for this trek because I want to make a difference and raise funds for a great cause while going to one of the places I have read so much about (Annapurna!).
DTZ has selected me and other nine lucky employees across the UK to represent the company in its fundraising efforts for the Teenage Cancer Trust.
The challenge
We will complete a very challenging trek on the Annapurna range and we will walk up and down the himalayan hills for over sixty gruelling hours over ten days.
The cause
What the Teenage Cancer Trust does to improve the quality of life of young cancer patients is amazing. Professional support is provided in specialist units where teenagers with cancer are not just treated as patients, but as teenagers too. Every young person has the right to have a youth in a serene environment. Reading about the TCT’s activities reminds me of how lucky I have been to have had a youth with no life-challenging diseases. My company’s initiative with the Teenage Cancer Trust has raised my own awareness of what is done and what can still be done to make a contribution and has inspired me to get involved in more practical help.
What I will do to raise money
Raising £3,000 is not going to be easy. No doubt the Teenage Cancer Trust is a good cause but to convince people around me to do that step further and actually make a donation I need to do my best to raise awareness.
I am intending to get involved with the TCT - I have sent my application to do anything is needed: driving, helping with admin-work, supporting in the organisation of sport and other events, and even as a bucket collector (you may be lucky enough to spot me dressed as a banana if you are in Manchester at the right time!).
I am also going to try to raise money by selling all the unused stuff that people are keen to donate, and by organising fundraising events - I will seek cooperation with independent local bars/cafes to see what we can do together. Visit my blog for more details and updates.
Donations
Every single penny contributes in making a difference. If you want to make a donation (it doesn't matter how small!) please do so via this page or contact me (and don't forget to visit my Thank you page ;-)
