Story
Some of the many people who helped me work in the Rape Crisis Centre in Glasgow. They allowed me to understand the frustratingly lengthy legal process and literally stood by me through every stage of it. They supported me emotionally through all the anxiety, pain and sadness. They allowed me to see my inner strength and ability to keep going and seek justice.
I know that the memories of what happened to me will stay with me forever, but I do want to use my tragic experience to help others. That is why I am choosing to proudly participate in the Great Scottish Run this year on behalf of Rape Crisis Glasgow Centre. An incredible organisation that works so hard to make a real and positive difference.
For someone who has never ran in an event like this before, this is going to be a big challenge! But running is really helping me regain strength and confidence, especially knowing that I am doing it for the charity that offered me so much hope through a harrowing time.
Those who have been survivors of sexual assault, please know that although speaking out is daunting and scary, there are good people out there who want to help you. If you do choose to one day report or talk about your experience, Rape Crisis would be a safe and secure starting point. They would be there for you as long as you needed them, just like they were for me ❤.
Any donation to this wonderful cause is greatly appreciated. It honestly means the world to me and the many other survivors of sexual violence.
