Story
I have been to Lebanon twice with Muslim Aid and have personally witnessed the work that is being carried out. Lebanon has been a great host to the displaced people of Palestine for many years and to the recent refugees of Syria. A nation that has always opened its arms to those in need is , itself, in desperate need now. I have met refugees who have sought shelter in Lebanon and it really breaks my heart to see the city of Beirut in the state that it is today.
The devastating explosion in the Lebanese capital, Beirut, has killed at over 100 and injured more than 4000 others. The explosion, last night sent shockwaves across the city, causing widespread damage and has left up to 300,000 homeless.
The ongoing economic crisis and sharp spike in Covid-19 cases means this emergency could overwhelm the poorest and most vulnerable in Lebanon. Ahmed Fawzi, Muslim Aid’s Lebanon Country Director said “It looks like a war zone right now. Thousands are homeless, hospitals are overwhelmed and struggling to cope with the wounded and injured". Muslim Aid has been on the ground in Lebanon since 2007 and I have met the team and witnessed the outstanding work that has been done there.
Please help me to help Lebanon.
May Allah swt accept from us all. Ameen
