Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
All of us have, or will at some point in life, be touched by the illness of a loved one. It is a very difficult situation to be in, but we have to put on a brave face and help the loved one manage as best as they can.
Our lovely daughter, the smiliest girl I know, was diagnosed with RRMS, the most common form of Multiple Sclerosis last year, at the age of 16. It changed all our lives and made me realise what is really important in life.
She is a fighter and has, with all the determination in the world, tackled it head on and kept a brave face all the while. She is a fighter, and I know she will beat it.
There are many treatments out there but no cure as yet. The pharma companies are no longer investing as much money into any more drug research as they think a cure is around the corner. That may or may not be true but my daughter and millions around the world can’t wait.
I have decided to contribute to raising awareness and as a result, myself and couple of my friends have decided to trek to the Mount Everest Base Camp from Kathmandu. It’s a 6 day gruelling and dangerous hike to an eventual height of around 5,600m/18,500 feet. No matter how fit one is, most will suffer from altitude sickness.
I am hoping to raise more awareness and money for the UK MS Society. I hope you can contribute, all donations, large or small can go a long way. As they say, every little helps!
Thank you so much
Rashid
About MS
Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a condition which can affect the brain and/or the spinal cord.
It's a lifelong condition that can sometimes cause serious disability, although it can occasionally be mild. In many cases, it’s possible to treat symptoms. Average life expectancy is slightly reduced for people with MS.
It's estimated that there are more than 100,000 people diagnosed with MS in the UK and more than 2 million around the world.
It's most commonly diagnosed in people in their 20s and 30s, although it can develop at any age. It's about two to three times more common in women than men.
