Standalone 10km run · 4 October 2009

ChildLine is the UK's free and confidential, 24 hour helpline for children in distress or danger. Trained volunteer counsellors comfort, advise, support and protect children and young people who may feel they have nowhere else to turn. Children call ChildLine about a wide range of problems, but the most common problems are abuse (both sexual and physical), bullying, serious family tensions, worries about friends' welfare and teenage pregnancy. Children and young people can call ChildLine about anything – no problem is too big or too small. ChildLine is a service provided by the NSPCC

Email from NSPCC received on Monday 5th October 09

Dear Rav and Dupinder

As the local Fundraising Manager at the NSPCC, I would like to thank you all for raising funds for ChildLine through your Just Giving page and by running the Standalone Farm 10k. It is fantastic that you have managed to raise £500 for us - which it’s the equivalent of us being able to answer the phone to 125 children who call the ChildLine service.

Rav and I are running the 10k run at Standalone Farm (Letchworth Garden City) on the 4th October 09. We have been thinking about doing something charitable for some time, so when Rav saw that the run was taking place in the local paper he signed himself up and so did I!

We have been training pretty hard over the last few weeks, so please dig deep into your pockets and donate online. All donations go to ChildLine charity.

Thanks!

Rav and Dippi x

More about ChildLine

ChildLine is the UK’s free 24-hour helpline for children and young people with any problem.

Last year ChildLine counselled almost 120,000 children and young people about a wide range of problems.  Many of these children were in great distress; others were in danger of being hurt or hurting themselves.  ChildLine met with thousands of children in UK secondary schools through CHIPS (ChildLine in Partnership with Schools).  The charity also helped many thousands more children who needed straightforward advice or information.

But as well as listening to children, ChildLine gives them a voice – taking what they say about their lives and relaying it to policy-makers, parents and people who work with children, so that children’s lives can be changed for the better.

ChildLine believes that no child should have to suffer abuse, be terrified to go to school, or live in fear.
