Story
Welcome to our just giving page. We are proudly running the Virgin London Marathon on Sunday, 3rd October 2021 in memory of our father in law, the late Dipak Shah and the late Bharat Savani (Amit's father).
They were both truly humble and hard working men with lots of positive qualities. To name a few, their infectious smiles, their ability to connect with people of all ages and a key passion for DIY work, where they would always lend a helping hand to others in need. They were very calm and softly spoken in nature, respected by all and had hearts of pure gold.
Dipak's Story
On 1st February 2019, our whole world was turned upside down. Our father in law was suddenly diagnosed with a grade four glioblastoma. This is a rare and highly aggressive brain tumour that doesn't have any symptoms until its advanced stages.
As our father in law's health started to quickly deteriorate he always remained positive, strong, and hopeful. He made the most of his time by spending quality family time with his wife, two daughters, his beautiful granddaughter and his two apprentices (yes that's us!) alongside the rest of his family. There were frequent visits to parks, restaurants, dessert parlours (he had a huge sweet tooth) and enjoyed an epic tour of Lords cricket stadium. His friends and work colleagues also became part of the family circle.
The medical support he received was second to none. We were swiftly put in touch with the amazing team at St Lukes hospice, where he would attend on Wednesdays. Our father in law was very fond of the hospice itself and the staff as there was always a feeling of warmth. It gave him an opportunity to make new friends and continue to connect with others which he was so special at doing. Unfortunately he was only able to attend two sessions before he sadly passed away on 17th April 2019.
Bharat's Story
Bharat had been diagnosed with mouth cancer on 27th September 2000. Exactly a year later he lost his battle and passed away leaving behind his wife and two young sons aged 13 and 17 years. During this period he went through radiotherapy and two major facial reconstruction surgeries to remove the cancer.
He was always positive and hopeful throughout his entire journey. However sadly after his second major operation the family were given the unexpected news that the cancer had spread into in his spine. Unfortunately there were no further treatment options available other than palliative care.
St Luke's hospice were involved in supporting Bharat during his last few months by giving him the best quality care and assistance wherever needed.
Gratitude for St Luke's Hospice
There are not enough words to thank the team at St Luke's hospice for the support and care they gave to both fathers following their terminal diagnosis. Raising money for this amazing cause will enable the hospice to sustain the current level of care which is offered to those in need and is a very small way for us to say a big thank you.
We all deeply miss our fathers presence and try to smile at their memories which we will always treasure in our hearts forever.
We feel proud and honoured to be running the London Marathon and fundraising for St Luke's Hospice in memory of our fathers. Please support us in reaching our target of £10,000!
