This year I am doing my last Iron Man triathlon on Sundat 1 August in Bolton. To make it special I am raising money for Francis Children's Hospice in Didsbury, Manchester.

Francis House provides a home from home where families can receive professional care, support and friendship.

Francis House is open to all families who have children under sixteen diagnosed as having a life threatening or life limiting condition. The care is free of charge and regardless of faith or cultural background.

As you may know the Iron Man involves swimming 2.4 miles in open water followed by a 112 mile cycle covering a number of steep hills and finally completing a 26.2 marathon run. The estimated number taking part is 1500.

Training began in October with long early morning runs each Saturday and Sunday. The training has increased since January to include cycling and swimming. Fortunately, I have been training with a number of very good friends who have given me the motivation to get up early at the weekends. Without their good company I would have spent many a weekend morning in bed.

I will keep you up to date as the big day gets closer.
