Refuge opened the world’s first refuge in West London in 1971. We support thousands of women & children every day, experiencing domestic and sexual violence, female genital mutilation, forced marriage, stalking, trafficking, prostitution & so-called ‘honour’ based violence.

Story

Hey lovely pretty people

I am going to run a half marathon in October, The Royal Parks Half Marathon. This is so bloody scary for me but will be such an accomplishment AND it is just a few days before my birthday (my birthday is the 19th October if you want to get me a present, but I would like a present and to be sponsored please).

Another reason to why this is so bloody scary for me is because I am doing it to support a charity that is on a tricky subject for me personally. The charity I am supporting is Refuge a charity that campaigns against domestic violence and helps rebuild the lives of people who have been affected by it.

No one deserves to be physically or mentally abused by anyone under no circumstance. These situations can be even tougher when it is a family member or a loved one, as sometimes this makes people blinded to the situation. It is sometimes hard for the law to get involved as it is one word against another word with no witnesses. A lot of the time the victims have to keep quiet out of fear especially as the law is not in place to fully help.

Domestic violence is kept within the person forever, it can damage how you feel about yourself, your confidence, your relationships, trust in others plus much more. I still to this day can get upset about being mentally and physically abused by my Dad and what I saw happen to my Mum. I may hide it and not talk about it much but it still hurts. With supporting this charity I want to help others find a strength, speak up and  to move on to hopefully have a happy life full of everything they deserve.

Did you know?

One woman in four will experience domestic violence at some point in her lifetime and two women are killed each week in England and Wales by a current or former partner. Refuge supports around 6,000 women & children on any given day, experiencing domestic and sexual violence, female genital mutilation, forced marriage, stalking, trafficking, prostitution & so-called ‘honour’ based violence. & don't forget men can also suffer domestic violence, this used to go unspoken about but as awareness to the problem men have spoken out.

By kindly sponsoring me today you are helping to save and change the lives of thousands of women, men and children escaping domestic violence.Thank you. Means the world to me!
