Me and my friend Sophie will be taking part in the Santa Run at the beginning of December. We aren't great at any strenuous activities and you wouldn't even catch us running for a bus or tube, but we are trying to raise money for a really important cause and charity.

Domestic abuse affects 1 in 4 women and two women are killed every week by a violent partner or ex-partner in the UK. It is also the most common cause of long term depression and other mental health problems for women.

The charity we will be doing it for is the Woman's Trust which is a specialist charity that helps women suffering from the long term mental health impact of domestic violence and abuse. They support women that are currently in violent relationships and trying to leave domestic violence relationships, as well as supporting women years and even decades after leaving a violent relationship that are still struggling to cope with the ongoing effects of this abuse on their mental health day to day.

Woman's Trust provides free 1 to 1 counselling to help survivors of abuse so they can regain control over their lives, as well as support groups for women to overcome the isolation and loneliness that often comes with domestic abuse, and workshops to help survivors understand and help to move on from it.

Women are ashamed to talk about domestic violence and their stories when it has happened to them and we need to change that, so women can talk about it and know where to get help. 

This is why charities like Woman's Trust are so important, providing a safe place for women to do this.
