The Countess Charity works with the local community to raise money for over 80 funds across the hospital - each one making a real difference to patient care!

Story

In August 2015 I will be attempting my 7th solo crossing of the English Channel in aid of "The Babygrow Appeal" at Countess of Chester Hospital.

My nephew Jacob arrived 1 month early and spent the 1st week of his life being cared for at the Countess of Chester Hospital on the neonatal unit.

I would like to give something back for the care and support he and his parents received.

Launched in December 2012, this major appeal has a target of £3million to build a new Neonatal Unit more than double the size of the one we currently have. This will enable us to provide patients and their families with a more spacious environment and a greater degree of privacy. Our charity exists to provide thing over and above core NHS provision and we therefore want to provide the very best facilities we can for families at what can often be a very distressing time for them. The new unit will have its own separate entrance and will include a counselling room and play room for siblings, along with larger nurseries and areas for families to have some quiet time.
