Milton Keynes Marathon 2012 · 29 April 2012 ·
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
My story about ending up running a marathon is a little different to Lisa, but the outcome is generally the same! I ran with both Helen and Lisa last year in the Race for Life, and enjoyed running with both of my little sisters. With Lisa continuing on with her running after that race, and the small consideration that I'd always fancied running a marathon, it seemed like a sensible next goal, especially after having run the Milton Keynes Half a few weeks back in the rain and snow.
I didn't realise the amount of effort involved in training, and how much it would hurt! And when Lisa suggested that we should run for charity - it made sense, especially after the conversation we had after we'd both done our long run. As Lisa puts it "torture" isn't that far away from the truth!
And I completely agree with Lisa's statement on her page so I've just cut it completely (and unashamedly)
So, why have I chosen Meothelioma UK, a relatively unknown charity? Simple!.
Many of you know my beautiful mum passed away 6 years ago due to mesothemlioma (asbestos related cancer) At the time we as a family knew very little about this type of cancer and I believe the charity I plan to raise money for not only raises awareness of this cancer and it's causes but also provides much needed support for those families who have to go through what my family has. Quite shocklingly from what I've read on my charity's website, only 6% of the UK population know what this disease is, yet this cancer kills 1 person every 5 hrs in the UK.
The only thing that I can add to this is that whilst speaking to my wonderful boyfriend (who I wasn't with 6 years ago), and spoke about Mesothemlioma - he didn't know what it was. So I honestly believe that more awareness can only be a good thing!
