Kielder Challenge (25.3miles) · 1 September 2018

FND Action supports people across the UK living with Functional Neurological Disorder (FND). We provide information, raise awareness, campaign for better healthcare, and promote education to improve understanding and outcomes for everyone affected.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

In early May 2018 my 18 year old sister was diagnosed with FND. She was a very active and confident woman, but is now learning to live with a condition we know very little about. This has changed her life forever.

Both myself and my partner Daniel would like to complete the Kielder Challenge (25.3 miles) in the hope we raise awareness of this life changing condition.

September is approaching fast, but with determination and support we hope my sister can walk the last part with us. Any donations whether big or small would be hugely appreciated.

Functional Neurological Disorder (FND).  People with FND can experience a wide variety of symptoms including:

  • weakness and abnormal patterns of movement (e.g. tremor, abnormal posturing of limbs)
  • attacks of abnormal movement/change in awareness that resemble epileptic seizures
  • sensory problems
  • cognitive problems
  • visual and speech symptoms
Whilst the symptoms may appear similar to neurological diseases including those of Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson’s and Epilepsy, and can be just as disabling, they are not caused by structural disease of the nervous system, but instead are a problem with the “functioning” of the nervous system.
