Walk for Tim Hetherington and Chris Hondros

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
On 18th May 2019 a group of us will be doing a half marathon walk (15 Miles) in London in memory of our dear friend, photojournalist Tim Hetherington and his friend and colleague Chris Hondros. Tim and Chris were killed in Libya in April 2011, after being hit by shrapnel from a mortar attack fired at them.
Tim and Chris were both committed to sharing with the world through photography and film, the stories of the lives of others..
The walk will be a fundraiser for a brilliant charity, The Bronx Documentary Center, which was set up by conflict photographer Michael Kamber, a close friend of Tim and Chris. Michael and Tim had spoken of creating a place like The Bronx Documentary Centre before Tim's death.
The Bronx Documentary Center (BDC) is a community-based, non-profit gallery and educational space located in The Bronx, New York.
The money raised from the walk will support a unique and much needed project The BDC runs. They provide free after school education programs for middle and high school students. The project gives these young people, who would otherwise not have the opportunity, a chance to explore their own lives and communities through the use of photography and filmmaking.
More about Bronx Documentary Center:
Alongside the program for young people, the centre supports and exhibits the work of photographers and filmmakers focusing on the themes of justice, education, community-building, and positive social change.
The Centre also supports emerging photographers and film makers who focus on the social and humanitarian issues that were so imperative to Tim and Chris.
Following his death, Tim’s parents gifted the centre all of Tim’s books. These are now kept in ‘The Tim Hetherington library’ in the centre and can be used by visitors there and also viewed online.
