Job done ! : I completed my last mile in Windermere on the 5th September 2010 to add to my swims in Rydal, Coniston, Grasmere, Ullswater, Derwent Water, Buttermere, Wast Water, Bassenthwaite Lake and Crummock Water to complete my challenge. The British Red Cross are an integral part of the emergency response infrastructure in Cumbria, most noticeably since the 2005 Carlisle Floods. Just in the last few months, we've supported the statutory services in liaison with Police Gold Command, Cumbria CC Emergency Planning and the NHS in responding to the Cumbria Floods, Keswick School Bus Crash & West Cumbria Shootings.

Our Boat crews assisted the Cumbria Fire & Rescue Service, our Ambulance crews the North West Ambulance Service, whilst other Emergency Response teams provided practical and emotional support at various Rest Centres. Staff and volunteers continue their support today and will provide those affected with essential long term help, information, or a listening ear, for as long as it takes.

As a British Red Cross volunteer based in Cumbria for 17 years, I would like to raise money for Initial Emergency Response Equipment to be available for rapid deployment when required across the County. This includes essential items such as clothing, blankets, toiletries, torches, signage, registration and communications equipment.
