Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving pages.

It is with deep sadness that I write that my dear Dad, who many of you knew, lost his battle with cancer on 22nd April 2021. He fought bravely to the end and will be dearly missed by us. ❤️

Adrian Sydney Fletcher - 28/10/1948 - 22/4/2021 - RIP Dad ❤️

Firstly,  thank you to everyone who has called, emailed, WhatsApp messengered, sent cards and flowers and reached out. The support, sympathies and condolences, anecdotes and empathy have been amazing and has lifted our spirits. Your memories and experiences of him and his character have been a joy to hear. Some of you may not have known that Dad was diagnosed with Cancer of the Bile Duct around 18 months ago, a lesser known and quite aggressive cancer. During lock-down in 2020, his cancer was confirmed as being terminal, and therefore his treatment was changed to palliative for which he went through several rounds of chemotherapy.
We had hoped that his original prognosis of about 12 months would stand, however a stent inserted to manage a blockage sadly caused multiple infections and with a compromised immune system the doctors concluded that his palliative care now needed to consist of antibiotics to manage the infections. The antibiotics were only ever intended to extend his life, and create a quality of life, so we were under no expectations that it would cure the cancer, but we had hoped that his original prognosis would stand. During his last hospital admission for a reinfection, the doctors advised us that the antibiotics were becoming less effective and the cancer was ravaging his body faster than originally thought. Dad chose to come home to be with the family. When he arrived home from the hospital on the 17th April, he deteriorated quite quickly. His organs were starting to shut down and there was little that could be done, except for to make him comfortable and pain free. At about 11:15 hrs BST on 22nd April, Dad passed peacefully & quickly, with Sylvia & Nicola by his side.

Lastly, we share this story on Justgiving to thank St Richard’s Hospice & Campden Home Nursing for all their care, help & support during the last few weeks of Dad’s time with us.
The staff from both charities have been amazing, their strength, knowledge & expertise invaluable. For this reason we ask for your donations to both charities so others can benefit as we did.

We love you Dad.
On behalf of all the family, we thank you from our hearts for your condolences, messages, cards, flowers and love ❤️
