Trek to Petra · 4 November 2023 to 11 November 2023 ·

JRF was established in 1995, by Her Majesty Queen Rania Al Abdullah, with the overall aim of empowering communities economically and promoting child safety. Since its inception, JRF has empowered more than 2M beneficiaries through its child safety and community empowerment programs.

Story

Think about  the natural resources you used today. Perhaps you used water to bathe or texted on a cell phone with copper, zinc and other precious metals inside. Everything we use comes from natural resources. However, many resources are being depleted faster than they can be replaced. Sustainability is the practice of using natural resources responsibly, so they can support both present and future generations. The world population is expected to increase from 7.6 to 9.8 billion people by the year 2050. Especially as the human population grows, it s critical we reduce our depletion of forests, precious metals and other natural resources.

On 23rd September 2023, I will be trekking 100km within the Dunes of Wadi Rum and Petra in Jordan alongside 120 HSBC colleagues from around the world.

The trek is self funded and with no access to  typical facilities like hot showers, WiFi and a comfortable bed. Everyone will be carrying their own personal equipment and camping gear for five days, sleeping rough in the middle of nowhere, in order to raise money for sustainability. This trek will take the team through untamed land, some of which is untouched by humans.

Celebrating 28 years since its establishment, JRF continues to build a Jordan for safer children, equal opportunities, and sustainable growth, as it marks the commendable transformation of more than 2 million beneficiaries reached under its Community Empowerment and Child Safety Programs. Driven by values of social justice, impactful interventions to alleviate poverty, and socio-economic empowerment - focusing on women and youth, JRF implements various programs to achieve its mission of transforming Jordanian communities.
