Story
It's Rhanya here - thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
My cousin, Lois Holland, passed away on the 21st May 2010 after a 4 year struggle with breast
cancer. She was just 36, and leaves a husband and two young sons. I regarded her as more of a sister than a cousin, and owe her so so much.
Lois's final days were spent at St. Wilfrid's Hospice. Here, she was treated with infinite dignity, empathy, care, respect, love and attention - her
family and friends were treated the same way - and my most abiding memory of
this tragic event in our lives is that she was cared for by staff and volunteers
who showed compassion and love for all of us - we took up their time and they
gave it willingly. St. Wilfrid's cared for Lois and her visitors as a whole
entity - we took their time, drank their tea, cried on their shoulders and wept
in their beautiful garden - nothing was too much trouble and if Lois had been
able to speak, she would have said they were 'bloody brilliant' - and without
exception, they were.
Through all our sadness, it is an enormous comfort
to have experienced and witnessed the very best in end of life care. I only
wish that everyone in this situation could experience the same level of care and
love through the hospice that Lois and her family and friends did. For this
reason I would ask you to give anything you can to help these most wonderful
staff continue their good work so that others can benefit in the same way. Lois went surrounded by love - thanks in no
small way to St. Wilfrid's Hospice.
So please, donate a few pennies or dig a little deeper if you can - here comes a cliche.....'every little helps' (Sorry Tesco, i'm not imaginative enough to come up with my own). For St. Wilfrids, which is 85% funded by charitable donations, it really is true.
