Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my fundraising page.
I am currently battling metastatic melanoma - stage 3. I am half way though my radiotherapy and consider myself one of the lucky ones.
Melanoma is the most aggressive form of skin cancer and the incidence continues to rise on a world-wide basis. Furthermore, melanoma is more common than many other cancers, such as breast, bowel and lung, in patients in their 20s, 30s and 40s. By 2030, melanoma will be alongside the top five cancers and is already the most common cancer amongst the 15-34 age group.
When caught early, most melanomas can be cured after fairly minor surgery. In 80-90% of cases, melanoma can be removed with no recurrence. However, it can be more serious than the other forms of skin cancer, because it may spread to other parts of the body
.After a 10 year gap from the disease my melanoma returned in my axilla lymph nodes. I have now had the tumour and axillary lymph nodes removed and I’ve had radiotherapy to aid my treatment.
More research is needed into the causes and treatment of melanoma.
My brave strong brother is also fighting his own battle and this is my way of supporting everyone going through the horror of cancer and saying thanks for all the support we have received x
