I’m running the London Marathon because I’ve dreamed about it for years, finally got a ballot place for 2020 and three years of covid related deferrals….. here I am!
The marathon is like a school sports day for my beloved city. But while I’ve been lucky enough to fuel my training runs with a truly prodigious amount of cake and London’s hugely varied cuisine there are many people who don’t have enough to eat.
So I’m raising money for Waterloo Food Bank - the local branch of the Trussel Trust. I have a ballot place so please don’t feel pressured but if you do decide to donate both I and the people of Waterloo would be very grateful.
We exist to ensure that no one in Waterloo goes hungry. For people on low incomes, a sudden crisis redundancy, benefit delay, illness or even an unexpected bill can mean going hungry. Every day parents skip meals to feed their children and people are forced to choose between paying the rent or eating. We are part of The Trussell Trust, the UK-wide foodbank network. We work with local frontline care professionals, such as schools, charities, housing associations, GPs, health visitors and churches, to identify those in need.During the COVID-19 pandemic, referrals to our foodbank are up 135% and we are providing food to hundreds of families each week.We are currently offering a delivery service to every person who is referred in to our foodbank. This new way of operating comes at additional cost to us, so we are very thankful for any donations, to ensure non-one in Waterloo goes hungry.
