All the money raised will go towards Addaction's Right Turn Veterans Programme. This is a specialist service for ex-servicemen and women.
Not only do they take an enormous physical toll, they can also have a huge emotional impact on our servicemen and women. Sadly, some can then go on to develop problems with stress, depression and feelings of being isolated from their families.
And at first, alcohol and drugs may appear with their problems.
That’s why Addaction is working hard to offer support that understands the concerns and experiences of people who have served in the Army, Navy or Air Force and to support their families too.
A pilot partnership in Sheffield between Addaction and the Royal British Legion found that providing specialist support for veterans with alcohol and substance misuse issues which acknowledged the particular experiences of the armed forces community was very effective in engaging veterans in treatment services.
Building on this successful pilot, in 2014 Addaction have worked together with HEINEKEN to develop the ‘Right Turn’ programme. Specially trained Addaction staff provide tailored support and veterans who have overcome their problems are trained as Recovery Champions, helping others through their recovery journey. These Recovery Champions are an inspiration to others - proving to people who have lost hope that they too can recover and rebuild their lives.
