I have decided to swim the English Channel during October. before you fall off your chair laughing, I am NOT deoing this in the sea and I am NOT doing this in one go. The channel crossing remains one of my great unfulfilled sporting ambitions, but I am not yet prepared to take to the sea.

Instead I am going to swim the 22 miles in swimming baths around the country during October - the distance equates to 1416 lengths of the 25m Univesity baths in Lancaster. I have also set myself a time target of complation before the end of October and within 20 hours.

I wanted to do something out of the ordinary this year to support a very worthwhile cause. The Tribal Foundation has raised in excess of a quarter of a million pounds in four years to support sustainable development projects in East and Southern Africa as well as India.
