I don't know his given name.
I have come to call him Inspiration. A little boy, aged around 7 a smile as bright as the morning sunshine. A face all dusty and dirty yet caked in joy and a smile that walked right through you. Face full of blisters, likely that HIV was the underlying cause.
He stood at the side of a road somewhere just before Camperdown on the Comrades down route 2014. He and his friends were asking for food. I had no food to give, I had a pair of gloves. I gave him these gloves.
Joy is something indescribable, but his face beamed with it. Even now when I think of him it's hard not to smile. Teeth as white as ivory, face a dusty brown, wild bushy hair.
I ran ahead but his memory has never left me. I don't know if he is still with us. His joy inspires me to this day. So I invite you to give whatever you want to. Every penny raised makes a significant difference to the life of a child.
