Century Cycle Challenge · 3 May 2014

The Community Foundation works to support private giving for needs in Leicestershire and Rutland's communities. We help individuals and companies to give effectively to charities and hidden heroes - helping the homeless, running youth groups, elderly lunch clubs, social enterprises and much more.

Story

I am doing the Century Cycle Challenge which is a 100 mile charity cycle ride from Nevill Holt around the lanes of Leicestershire on Saturday 3rd May.  This is in aid of the Charities that are being supported by the Leicestershire and Rutland High Sheriff's Racenight on 19th May at Leicester Racecourse.

The Charities are :

The Design for Life Appeal, which helps those with learning difficulties to live more independently.

Warning Zone, which educates children and young people in Leicestershire and Rutland about the risks of getting a criminal record and how to avoid accident, injury and death from preventable accidents.

The High Sheriff of Rutland's Fund, which is being set up as a new fund for use by successive High Sheriffs to provide grants to small charities serving the people of Rutland.  The fund will be administered by the Leicestershire and Rutland Community Foundation, and will be eligible for some Government matched funding as well as Grant Aid.

The Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institution (RABI) which is a grant-making charity that supports members of the farming community facing need, hardship or distress.  Founded in 1860 the charity has an unbroken history of providing long-term care and emergency help for farmers, farm workers, tenant farmers, farm managers and families.

Leicestershire Cares which brings business and community together, for the benefit of all, through employees volunteering, helping among others rehabilitation or offenders and supporting homeless people.

The Harley Staples Trust which was set up in memory of Harley Staples, who died of a rare form of Leukaemia, by his parents.  They are fundraising to build Harley's House which will be a holiday home in the local area for children with cancer and their parents.
