Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page and supporting my efforts to raise funds for Parkinson's UK and the Hambledon Community Fund, distributed by the Community Foundation for Surrey.
At 7a.m. on Saturday 11th June, I begin my attempt to cycle from John O’Groats to Lands End, as part of the “Deloitte Ride Across Britain” event. This is a trip of just under 1,000 miles to be completed within 9 days. If successful, this will fulfil a long-held ambition to cycle ‘end to end’, having hitchhiked the same route with an old friend back in the day. More importantly it allows me the opportunity, with your support, to raise funds for two charities close to my heart – Parkinson’s UK and the Hambledon Community Fund (HCF).
Parkinson’s UK is the country’s support and research charity for this disease. They are leading the way in seeking to find a cure, campaign to change attitudes and, perhaps most importantly, provide ongoing support to sufferers and their carers to help improve the quality of life for the one person every hour in this country who is diagnosed with the disease. My father, Addis, suffers from this disease. He, like many other sufferers, just gets on with life and makes the best of it, but knows the value of the support network which Parkinson's UK provides. I'd love to help to fund their valuable work.
The HCF is a recently-established charitable fund, operating in partnership with the Community Foundation for Surrey, which is designed to meet the local charitable needs of my local community. Examples of projects which have been supported, or which are presently looking for support, include renovation of the Hambledon almshouses, the provision of equipment for the local nursery school, and support for the village church.
All money raised will be divided equally between the two charities. For logistical purposes, the funds will flow through the Community Foundation for Surrey, a registered charity, which will then manage the distribution of the funds to the two underlying causes.
Thank you so much for your support.
Richard
