Tonbridge Half Marathon 2011 · 25 September 2011

The Objectives of the Charitable Association are to support the soldiers, their wives and families in the event of hardship. The Association will help in the event of casualties and bereavement, not just in the immediate aftermath but in the longer term.

Story

I am running the inaugural Tonbridge Half Marathon in Kent on 25th September to support the 9th/12th Royal Lancers Charitable Association. This is the charity that supports wounded and bereaved members of my former regiment, and their families, over the longer term when support from the MOD and other military charities may no longer be available.

The regiment are currently deployed in Afghanistan where to date they have suffered one fatality and a number of other injuries including several losses of limbs. Examples of possible future support might include assistance towards the cost of funeral or memorial expenses, and transporting family members to such services, the purchase of prosthetic limbs and adapting accommodation for wheelchair use etc.

Thank you very much for any donations you feel able to make, which I know will be put to very good use.

Richard
