BigRed's 10 x 10k Challenge - For Macmillan Cancer Support

BigRed's 10 x 10k Challenge - For Macmillan Cancer Support · 12 March 2014
Thanks for visiting my fundraising page.
My name is Richard Crombie. I've decided that this year I need to set myself a challenge, and what better way to do it and push me to complete it than for charity. Or in this case two charities.
The two charities I have decided to raise money for are Overgate Hospice and Macmillan Cancer Support. Why these I hear you ask?
Well,
I work at Parkinson-Spencer Refractories in Halifax, and over the last
few years we have lost a few people to the dreaded cancer. Elaine
Scrimshaw, Sue Parkinson & John McEvoy have all been taken from us
many years before their time. At some point during their illnesses the
services of Overgate Hospice or Macmillan Cancer Support were used.
As
they were all well known and much loved at the company as well as life
in general, I've decided to support these charities and do my little bit
for the fantastic services they provide.
So what is the 10 x 10k challenge that I'm embarking on. Well its
simple, I going to run 10 (yes ten) 10k (6.2 mile) races throughout
2014.
Before this year I've only ever run 10k once and it felt like
it took days. So, I've been getting a few miles under my belt since the
start of 2014 and I decided to enter my 1st 10k race as a goal to work
to. After a month or so on the treadmill (not literally a month ON it!) I
started looking around for more 10k's to enter later in the year. When I
found out that there are literally hundreds, some of which require
minimum sponsorships, the idea came to me that rather than annoying
everyone each month with a sponsorship form, I would create this page as
a way to sponsor me for a group of races. It was then I decided to push
myself out of my comfort zone even more and attempt a round number of
10 races and to complete each of these 10k races in under an hour!
Now
that might seem slow to some people, but when you havent done more than
the length of a football pitch a few times in the last 10 years, I'd
say it was lightning quick!
The events that I am entering are as follows...
