Story
When Douglas Macmillan set up Macmillan Cancer Support in 1911 he did so to reach and improve the lives of everyone living with cancer in the UK.
In 2008 my father was diagnosed with leukaemia. In 2013 my mother was diagnosed with breast cancer. Both received life-changing treatment and support from The Macmillan team and Kettering General Hospital.
Contrary to popular opinion Macmillan nurses do not provide end of life care. When patients need someone to turn to, Macmillan are there. Right from the moment people are diagnosed, through their treatment and beyond, Macmillan are a constant source of support, giving patients the energy and inspiration to help them take back control of their life, and feel more like themselves again.
This is where you come in! Macmillan nurses are specialist nurses. They are trained to an incredibly high standard in order to assist some (but sadly not all) of the 2.5 million cancer patients in the UK today. Along with specialist medical treatment they also provide life-changing care in the form of hope. Funding is so important and without it some patients would have no hope.
I would be hugely grateful if you could donate. No amount is too small! I hope to raise in excess of £2000.
My 2017 London Marathon journey started after the televised 2016 marathon. 2017 was the first year I applied. Oddly I was quietly confident I would be succesful. I entered the ballot and then made 3 cancer charity applications, two of which were successful and the third I wait to hear from! I feel fortunate to have been succesful and now have the honour to run for my charity which is #teammacmillan
