We are disabled people leading change. Disability Rights UK campaigns for the freedom to live independently and the opportunity to be free of poverty - for the 11 million people in Britain with lived experience of disability or health conditions.

Story

Hi there, thanks for taking the time to have a look at my page.

My story revolves around wanting to complete some kind of hefty challenge for the past four years since a heatwave back in 2019 scuppered an Ironman attempt in Nice and then Covid came and put the world on hold.

However, much like London buses i've ended up with two pretty sizeable challenges arriving together within two months in the shape of an attempt at my first Ironman in Cork on August 14th and then my first marathon in London on October 2nd having "kindly" been offered a place by Tony and the team at Disability Rights UK.

Their work has struck a cord because of my heroic perma-smiling nephew, Leo, and the work D.R.UK are putting in helping to ensure he and his peers will be offered every opportunity whilst dealing with the challenge of cerebral palsy or any disability. Whilst being less well known then some charities, D.R.UK supports across the broad picture of life opportunity directly helping to make schools, colleges and universities accessible, run work experience programmes and train employers in disability confidence and awareness.

All in that'll be swimming 2.4miles, cycling 112miles, running 26.2miles and then running another 26.2miles a few weeks later. Total =166.8miles.

Being able to take on the two challenges is a gift, being able to hopefully raise some funds for people doing such important work even more so. Any contribution, small or large would be hugely appreciated. X
