We are an international development charity protecting and promoting the rights of marginalised people in Latin America, West Africa and the Middle East. We support people in practical ways to understand their human rights, and put them into action, so they can change their lives for the better.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

In September 2016 I will be off to Rwanda to volunteer with the International service for 12 weeks. International service carry out numerous projects mainly in Africa (Burkina Faso, Ghana, Mali and Rwanda), South America (Bolivia) and Asia (Palestine) to assist in the empowerment of women, children, young people and disabled people to access their rights in these developing countries. International service is a part of the governments International citizens service (ICS) scheme that enables young people to volunteer abroad with local partner charities to assist with issues such as:

· supporting women to build their own futures to earn their own income, assert their rights, and increase their participation in the community.
· supporting women to document violence against women and provide legal advice.
· supporting young people's access to right to education, careers services and more
· Supporting people living with disabilities to be independent, access service and employment opportunities and more.

I could be assisting with any of these initiatives in Rwanda which i believe will be hugely rewarding.

As part of this great opportunity I need to raise £800 for the International service before i leave to Rwanda in September 2016 and I am hoping that you will all help to support me on this please! The money does not go to my work but will go to the great work that this charity does. Therefore, i will be holding a few fundraising initiatives; (selling original artwork, bake sales maybe even fitness in the park workout progams, any takers!?! and more). If anyone has any ideas on fundraising initiatives please do let me know. I will also be posting things on my social media page to publicise them, so watch this space! Any donations no matter how little will be greatly appreciated, so Thank you in advance.

The commitment to the Volunteer scheme is something that I do not take lightly due to the fact that as much as I have my own insecurities and fears regarding stepping out of my comfort zone (fundraising like this being one of them) and plenty more ahead (given I pass this stage), none of this is about me- but rather, it is about the people I will meet and learn from on this journey which I know will lead to me using my own initiative to sincerely help people on both grass root and eventually, systematic grounds.

The goal I aim to achieve by taking part in this scheme is to learn about humanitarian work and real life experiences people have encountered on personal, political, social and economical grounds. My motivation for many things I choose to involve in my life revolve around people and truth in order to assess the actual problems faced by people thus enabling me to play a part in the search and application of efficient, real, direct solutions to the source of these problems. I will immerse myself in the semi (being that I too am African)-cross cultural interaction with the beautiful people that I hope to meet, talk with, laugh with and ultimately learn from. From this experience, I will share these outcomes which, I believe will play a significant part on my journey towards being active in the fields of poverty alleviation, cultural and social empowerment.
