Story

Hello friends,

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

So...I am taking part in the Crystal Palace Sprint Triathlon on Sunday 14 May 2017, which consists of a 750m swim, 20km bike ride & 5km run up and down the hills of Crystal Palace.

After a knee reconstruction in April 2016 and, for the first time in 12 years being able to walk without pain, I have decided that it is time to take on a challenge and raise some money for charity.

For those of you who have just picked yourself off the floor, I have been in training since mid-December and can be seen at 6am splashing about in Streatham Leisure Centre swimming pool. I've even got the Speedos and goggles!

The charity I am supporting is the Williams Syndrome Foundation, http://www.williams-syndrome.org.uk/.

As many of you know, Carys our 2 year old daughter was born with Williams Syndrome. Williams Syndrome is a rare congenital disorder  that occurs randomly and affects around one in 18,000 people in the UK. It is non-hereditary and causes distinctive facial characteristics and a wide range of learning difficulties.

Carys has a heart condition and developmental delays but with the support of her fantastic paediatric team, she is doing really well and is a very happy little girl.

The Williams Syndrome Foundation is run by volunteers and relies on donations. The Foundation helped us massively when we first got our diagnosis. Sara was 37 weeks pregnant and it was a huge shock. The Foundation provided us with helpful and comprehensive information, rather than relying on hit and miss searches on the internet. The Foundation supports both families and people with Williams Syndrome into adulthood. As a family, we are very grateful for everything they do.

Help me raise a wad of cash for them,

Thanks very much,

Rob

About the charity

The Williams Syndrome Foundation was formed in 1980 and is run by parents for parents of children with this rare condition which causes heart and kidney problems and learning difficulties. It desperately needs funds to finance its ambitious research and family support programmes which include national conventions and regional meetings.
