I have chosen to set up this birthday fundraiser in support of the Children's Ward (Ward 19) at The Princess Royal Hospital in Telford.

Earlier this year our son Samuel needed the support of the amazing team on the ward for 13 days as he recovered from gastroenteritis, anaemia, low blood protein levels and the swelling around his face, legs and feet that this was causing.

It is very easy to take the care we receive from the NHS for granted but when someone you love, in our case our little boy, is so poorly the amazing work of doctors, nurses and all of the staff in our hospitals really comes sharply into focus.

My wife Hannah and I were just blown away by the level of care Sam received on the Children's Ward at the PRH - always caring and compassionate and always with Sam's best interests at heart. Nobody wants their child to be in hospital but I'm so reassured that if either of our sons are poorly again, we have a truly fantastic hospital to take care of them.

It's for this reason I feel compelled to do all I can to help this amazing work and the wonderful professionals making it all possible, I know not everyone is local to Telford but this is a cause that means an awful lot to me so if you are able to support in any way at all, even if it's just £1 that would be the most fantastic birthday present you could give to me this year.
