Story

Jan 2013

It's marathon season once again and what better way to celebrate by running not one but two marathons - Brighton and London. Brighton Marathon is on 14 April and London is on 21 April. I am currently training hard in rain, wind and snow for this double marathon attempt. Ok so there's a week in between for me to recover so not really a big deal but worth a donation I reckon.

Obviously, am raising funds in memory of the old man, for St Raphaels Hospice.  It seems rather fitting that running two marathons is a worthy challenge and one that I dedicate to my Dad. The only person I ever knew who wouldn't even run for a bus.

Read below for Dad's story and why raising funds for St Raphaels Hospice is necessary.

Oct 2011

This page has been set up in memory of Rob “Bob” Marvelly.

Rob was diagnosed with bile duct cancer in January 2011 and endured numerous investigative procedures followed by 12 weeks of chemotherapy. Sadly since early June his condition deteriorated and he spent many weeks in hospital fighting several infections. It was Rob's wish to spend his final days in St Raphael's Hospice in Cheam. He got to know the hospice and the care they provide through his work as a local photographer. He was in the Hospice for just over two weeks when he sadly lost his brave fight. He considered himself to be very fortunate indeed to be able to spend his final days in such a caring and peaceful atmosphere. The support they gave him and the whole family is something we will never forget.

St Raphael's is a charitable foundation and as such are only given limited funds from the Government. It costs approximately 4million pounds each year to run and 3million of that has to be raised through donations. It only has 14 rooms for in-patients but has facilities for day care and community care nursing. Surprisingly it treats over 900 people per year.

A wonderful place with amazing staff, please support them if you can.
