Story

FINISHED! Tom and I got to Lands End in time for lunch on the 9th day and it was a great feeling and we were both glad to see the back of our saddles. We had varying degrees of headwind the entire way, the only consistency being that it was opposite our direction of travel. The first day was particularly hard as it was extremely strong and we had 110 miles to travel before our first B&B. We had punctures, blisters, saddle sores and storms but we managed to remain good friends throughout despite feeling pretty low at moments when we really questioned why we were doing this bike ride. It was the sponsorship that kept us going and I kept thinking of everyone's generosity which was extremely helpful on the hills. I'm really glad to have done it because, despite a lot of pain, the small moment of elation at Lands End made it all worthwhile.

I am going to bike from the very top of Britain to the very bottom to try and raise as much money for environmental causes as I can. Despite some pretty ugly knees (a result of a little fall last time I went for a bike ride) and carrying all our luggage with us on our bikes into headwinds, a friend from university and I are attempting to travel the entire distance in 10 gruelling days. The cost of this trip will not be funded from the sponsorship requested here.

IT SAYS NDORO BUT THEY REDISTRIBUTE THE MONEY!

I am doing the bike ride as part of a competition which I will explain:
The 10 people who raise the most money for charity will be flown out to the Venezuelan Highlands with a critically acclaimed film crew to film a broadcast quality documentary that highlights the conservation needs of this ecologically important region.

This video explains: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TKb7rJqHtGc

This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to see and help protect one of the last remaining true wildernesses on the planet. Inspiration for Arthur Conan Doyle's The Lost World, the Venezuelan Highlands are beautiful outcrops of limestone which tower over the amazon rainforest and, due to the vertical kilometre high cliffs that surround them, they are inaccessible to humans and therefore completely unspoilt. However, as with most of the worlds remaining pockets of natural beauty, the fragile ecosystems that occupy the land are under threat from climate change and species invasion.

All of the money raised is sent to Ndoro Children's Charity (who are in conjunction with Ibex Earth, the organisers of the trip) and is redistributed by them. As well as protect the Venezuelan Highlands, the money will also go towards the World Land Trust, The Conservation Foundation, The Gaia Foundation and many more including initiatives to save endangered gorillas and sharks. Finally, the gift aid will contribute to Ndoro Children's Charity and help educate children about the environment in developing countries.

All my life I have cared so much about the destructive effects humans have on nature and now I have the chance to act on this and try and do some good. Please help me to raise as much money a possible to give me a chance of getting a place on this adventure. Even if we aren’t lucky with the Venezuelan Highlands trip, it will still be a very challenging 100 mile a day bike ride for the benefit of a worthwhile selection of charities.
