Here are some messages from relatives and friends of Mum:-

Hi family,

I was just reading the messages about auntie Alison on the "justgiving" website, and was amused by the ones of her grandsons Michael and Roy in which they wrote about her legendary applepie! When she was staying with us in August 1993 (when my parents celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary), she couldn't stand that so many apples were floating around in the canal that surrounds our house. They had fallen off the appletree near the kitchen door, unfortunately half of the branches lean over the water so many apples end up in there. She persuaded Hans to pull the boat to that side so she could "rescue" some apples. In this picture she is balancing to stay on board! The next day she served us a fantastic applepie! (I will try and upload the pic).

love,

Jane XXX

Unfortunately, I did not have as much interaction with Granny as I would've liked to given we were split by the Atlantic Ocean.  But when I did have the pleasure of her company, it always amazed me how lively and spirited she was, all the way up to the last time I saw her, back in August.  I've met 50 and 60-year-olds that wouldn't have been able to keep up with Granny when she was in her 70s and 80s.  Because of this, even though she was my "Grandmother", I never felt that she was elderly or needed taking care, which when you stop to think about it was really amazing in its self.

She was very patient with me as a child and had the fridge stocked with Coca-Cola and homemade apple pie, which she would prepare from scratch for my brother and I, when we made the trip to England.  Even when it became impossible to make the apple pie herself, she still made an effort to go to the store and purchase mini Apple pies so that we would have our fill.  As a kid, I took this for granted, but as I get older I start to realize just how much effort she put into us coming down and I'm very appreciative of it.  Some of my best memories I have of my childhood are sitting in her garden, watching fish in her pond and wishing that I had something this beautiful back in Houston.  Few people on this earth have lived as full life and touched as many lives as she.

I hope you find comfort n my last sentence and know that she made her mark on the world through her children. Michael  Jackson

The things that stood out the most in my mind when I think of granny have always been the way she was perfectly happy to berate my dad when he tried to point out that what my brother and I were doing was stupid. She didn't bat an eye when we dyed our hair garish colors and she thought Michael's punk phase only vaguely amusing. She was always patient with me and my brother, and always looking to feed us. Just as my mom said, she made a mean apple pie, and to this day it's still my favorite pie. May she rest in peace. Roy Jackson

When I first met Alison and Reg  back in 1977 I always felt  welcomed into the Jackson family.  Alison was always very nice to me and later on to my sisters.  As foreigners we wanted to see Cardiff's Castles and Museums and  she was happy to show us around, and cook great food for us.  She drove to Gatwick or Heathrow airport  to meet me when our boys were young and needed the help.   I couldn’t have asked for a better Mother-in-Law.  She was a good Grandmother, in her younger days she could  bake a great apple pie,  our sons’ favorite.  Our friends in Houston still talk about her trifle, one of our friends got her recipe when she was visiting us, she makes it most Thanksgiving Dinners.   May she rest in peace.   Carmen Jackson

"I’m thinking of your mum a lot lately of course, and I have only nice memories. Especially since my mum passed, every time I spoke to her on the phone, it was if I heard my mum’s voice, always interested in our things and always asking if I had seen certain TV programs  the day before, as if we have the same programs over here. She was very up to date with what’s going on in the world." Nico van den Berg

" We are very sorry to hear about Mrs. Allison, heartfelt condolences to all her family.  May she rest in Peace a great lady and may the eternal light shine for her.  Big Hugs."   Noni & Mimi , Matzatlan, Mexico.

" In my mind she was like all the Goodman aunts, warm and straight talking. I’ll always remember when I was thirteen and staying at your house without my mother after my father died, she let me stay up and watch Barbarella with Jane Fonda - which was regarded as pretty risqué and would certainly not been allowed at home! That may seem like a strange example but she was always unfailingly kind to me. Do you remember she and you driving over to pick me up after I hitched back from Scotland after walking the Pennine Way and my hitching luck failed at the M4? Or when Ian and I went to walk in the Brecons which infamously ended with me pouring boiling Vesta Chow-Mein over his head?................

I also remember ..... Alison telling me the happiest days of her life had been holidaying with Reg – on a tandem I think". Tony Goodman

"I'm sure my Mum could refresh my memory as to her prizewinning account of her brand new mother-in-law's dustbin-showering habits c. '76 :-)" Ceri Jackson
