On May 3rd 2015, along with thousands of other people I'll be running the Volkswagen Prague Marathon to support Cancer Research UK.

I only started running back in November 2013, my personal life went through some changes and taking up running gave me a new focus and drive. I was overweight, smoking and enjoying a beer or 2 most nights but I decided at that point I needed to change and that running a marathon would be my ultimate goal albeit a very challenging one!

My first 10k wasn't easy, nerves kicked in but with support from friends I completed it and became hooked and signed up for loads more. My first half marathon didn't go quite as planned, unfortunately the event organisers moved the start line but I found it and managed 10 miles of the 13.1 mile route before having to stop!

Nearly a year later and numerous 10ks events and a few half Marathons later, I've lost weight and I'm in the best shape I've been in years. The only thing left was to submit my application to the Prague Marathon and now I'm in so no going back now.

I've chosen Cancer Research UK as my charity as they are the world's leading charity dedicated to beating cancer through research. They are fighting cancer on all fronts, finding new ways to prevent, diagnose and treat it to save more lives. They are entirely funded by the public and I hope with me raising money through running the Prague Marathon I can help a little, ensuring more people beat cancer.

It's certainly not been easy with work and family commitments and I've still got a way to go as the training ramps up in the months leading up to the Marathon but this is my ultimate goal and I can't wait.
