We support young people around the world to confront the planet's most urgent crises

Story

Dear Friends and Family,

This summer I have decided to raise money and volunteer for a fantastic charity – Raleigh International. With the global population rising by roughly 200,000 people daily, we are consuming world resources far faster than they can be replenished. This uneven distribution means it is often the poorest rural communities who suffer. Raleigh International works alongside young people impacting positive change by aiming towards the global goals for sustainable development, as set out by the UN in 2015, to build a better world by 2030.

I will be spending 7 weeks in Tanzania from the end of June to mid August working with Raleigh to achieve 3 goals:

  1. Providing schools with safe water, sanitation and hygiene,
  2. Protecting local environments, and
  3. Building stronger and resilient communities.

Tanzania is currently the 8th poorest country in the world, and with 75% living in rural communities, these people have rare access to safe water and very limited economic opportunities for their youth. Water is not only vital for clean living but it is also crucial for creating jobs and for supporting economic, social and human development.

This charity, and the work I will be doing, is of great global importance as climate change and other major world disasters continue to pose a greater threat to the lives of future generations.

I will be out there to inspire CHANGE and to help BUILD a SUSTAINABLE FUTURE.

As a fundraising effort, I plan on running the course of the Royal Marines’s ‘30 miler’ over Dartmoor on the 03/06/19. This will be a considerable personal challenge and one which I think will both strengthen my character but also one which I hope will be an inspiration for you to donate to the Raleigh charity. My goal is to complete this task in well under 8 hours, the time given to trainee Marines to complete it.

You are welcome to come and join me on my long run (as it might get a bit lonely!) by either running, cycling or driving along with me.

Any donation would be greatly appreciated
