Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Many of you are aware that in spring of 2021 our daughter in law Sarah was diagnosed with Stage 4 breast cancer with secondaries in her liver. As a mother of our two youngest grandchildren it can only be imagined how devastating this news was for her and the wider family.

After initial treatment of Chemotherapy at High Wycombe hospital’s breast surgery unit, Sarah transferred her care to the Royal Marsden hospital in London. What followed was intense and
gruelling for Sarah, including a double mastectomy & Radiotherapy, resulting in the wonderful news just before Christmas that Sarah was free of cancer.

Many of us are aware of close family members, friends and neighbours or indeed yourselves who
have been diagnosed with cancer and the trauma that results. Indeed my younger brother succumbed to cancer after a very short illness.

On October 2nd of this year I will be running, walking and crawling around the London Marathon course using it as a focus for fundraising for an appropriate charity.

Clearly there are many worthy cancer related causes for whom additional funds enable us all to hope that a cancer diagnosis is not a lost cause.

  • Cancer research do incredible work attempting to
find a way of preventing and treating this dreadful disease.
  • The Royal Marsden hospital is a centre of
excellence which undoubtably saved Sarah’s life and is giving regular ongoing testing and treatment to prevent the cancer returning.

However, Sarah has asked that my fundraising is for the benefit of the South Bucks Hospice at Butterfly House in High Wycombe which throughout Sarah’s treatment has provided herself and our son with continual support and guidance through what is often an uncertain journey, full of questions, worries, and fears for the worst.

South Bucks Hospice is a registered charity which relies heavily on fundraising to support it’s
continued existence which is important to local cancer sufferers such as Sarah whose need for their expertise and wisdom continues way into the future.

Please take time to visit Butterfly House’s website at https://sbh.org.uk in order to understand how
valuable it is to our community and donate to this worthy cause, however small or large an amount that you can.

Thanking you all
Bob
