Felix Fund supports bomb disposal and search personnel and their families. We provide welfare assistance and financial support for anyone who has conducted or assisted with bomb disposal duties; across all three services and the Met Police Counter Terror Unit SO15.

Story

Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

On 12th July 2015 I will be running 10km around the city of London in order to raise as much money as possible for Felix Fund, the charity set up to support military personnel who have been involved with Explosive Ordnance Disposal duties and their families. This can mean anything from the provision of therapeutic normalisation breaks to help bomb disposal teams adjust to life in the UK following active service on operations, to offering support to the trade's many injured and bereaved.

I will be running in memory of the late Lieutenant Colonel Mike Watkins MBE RLC. Killed tragically at Vimy Ridge in Northern France on 11th August 1998 whilst attempting to locate and clear First World War explosives, Mike's work invariably involved trying making the world a safer place and ensure the safety of the wider community; this was not uncharacteristic of Mike and indeed, of all of those who have worn the ATO badge before and since, both abroad and at home in the UK.

The fact that Mike served such a distinguished career as a bomb disposal expert will mean that my run on 12th July will be hastened slightly by a great sense of pride. However, I will be remembering him not as a soldier, but as my Dad.

Any donations, however small, will be greatly appreciated.
