Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. This
half term, I will be spending the week walking the final 127km of the pilgrimage
of Camino de Santiago de Compostela. This pilgrimage is something I have always wanted todo and so am thrilled I have the opportunity.

I havebeen preparing for a couple of months by walking each weekend, some days for
over 20kms. I am now very excited to start this journey.

The story of the pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela is intertwined with the
history of Christianity. After Jesus’ resurrection, St James became the leader
of the church in Jerusalem. It is thought that he then travelled to Spain to
spread the Good News.

After he was martyred in Jerusalem, his remains were taking back to Spain and are in
a shrine in Santiago de Compostela. The pilgrimage is also known as the Way of St James and is taken by thousands each year. The walk is now a World Heritage Site and there are six main routes that lead to the city.
With my group, I am taking the Portuguese Way. We start on Sunday and plan to
complete the walk next Friday. I am using this opportunity to fundraise for St
Mary’s. Please help in any little way that you can!

Thank you!
