Every half an hour in the UK, a child or young person will acquire a brain injury. The Child Brain Injury Trust provides information, support and training to anyone affected by this devastating and life changing condition. Visit our website www.childbraininjurytrust.org.uk to find out more...

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

On the 2nd of June 2017 my 16 year old brother, Tom, and step mum were savagely attacked in their own home. Tragically my step mum didn't survive and Tom very nearly didn't also.

Tom has been left with life changing injuries due to this. He is severely disabled and relies on 24 hour care.

He has been through lengthy brain operations, a coma, a tracheotomy, facial reconstruction where there was damage to his eye socket, endured hours of painful physio therapy, had to re learn how to drink, eat, speak and is now relearning how to stand up. He still has another brain operation taking place at some point where he will receive a metal plate in his skull to replace the large section of skull that is now missing.

Throughout this process he has shown nothing but determination and stayed positive. He inspires me daily.
He may be different than how he was before however we have Tom 2.0 now and he makes us so proud everyday! He’s kept his wit, humour and strength.

The Child Brain Injury Trust was established by a group of health professionals in 1991 to research and provide information regarding the effects of ‘traumatic’ injury on a child’s developing brain. They help by supporting children and their families, raising awareness, holding events and assisting in legal advice.

I am going to be doing a 25k trek through the Peak District on the 22nd of September which should take around 9 hours. As someone who has never been brilliant at CV, this is a huge task and I hope you can support me on this challenge whilst also fundraising for a charity very close to myself and my family.
