During the period that turned out to be the final months of our mother's life, she looked beyond her struggle with debilitating illness to think of helping others. She wanted to leave a legacy for people like her who were in need of medical assistance.

Her entire team of doctors were extraordinary. With special gratitude toward her eye surgeon, David Verity, our mother decided that her legacy would be a fund established in her name to support the work of the remarkable charitable organization to which he had introduced her, the St John of Jerusalem Eye Hospital Group.

The St John Eye Hospital Group is the only charitable provider of eye care for a large population in East Jerusalem. Its services are available to all, regardless of ethnicity, religion, or ability to pay. It is also the main training facility for local doctors and nurses who want to specialize in ophthalmology and brings ophthalmologists and nurses together from around the world and across political boundaries, raising standards and building trust. 

A gift from our mother established the Rochelle Bass Fund. To honor her memory please join us in contributing to it to help:

• train ophthalmologists from Israel/Palestine in the U.K. or U.S.
• bring renowned specialists to teach in Jerusalem; and 
• cover post-graduate training costs at the hospital.
