Story

Thank you for taking the time to visit my page.

After a few years debating whether or not to go for it, and with my 40th birthday fast approaching, I have decided to take the plunge and will be running the London Marathon on 23rd April 2017.  I have managed to obtain a charity place for a cause very close to my heart, the Stickler Syndrome Support Group.  As some of my friends and family will know, my daughter Millie was diagnosed with Stickler Syndrome when she was about 6 months old.  When she was born she was diagnosed with Pierre Robin Sequence, having a cleft palate and recessed jaw, which caused feeding and breathing difficulties.  From the moment she was born she was a fighter and exceeded all expectations, managing without her feeding and breathing tubes far earlier than anyone anticipated. She had 2 operations to repair her cleft palate and has subsequently had a further 2 operations on her eyes.

Stickler Syndrome is a rare condition, affecting approximately 1 in 30,000 people.  It affects collagen, and symptoms can include problems with eyes, hearing and joints.  We have been very fortunate in that Millie appears not to be too adversely affected by the condition, and as a family we have tried our utmost to ensure her condition does not stop her doing anything she wants to do.

At the time Millie was diagnosed, we weren’t provided with much information about the condition or what impact it would have on Millie’s life.  It was as a result of this that we joined the Stickler Syndrome Support Group (SSSG), who provided invaluable advice and information at a time when we really needed it.  I want to ensure that other families in our situation are able to continue to receive this advice and support going forward, hence my reason for raising vital funds for this charity.

I have run a couple of half marathons, but training for, and running the London Marathon will be a huge personal challenge for me.  Please help me get through the 26.2 miles and raise vital funds for this great cause by sponsoring me.

I really appreciate your support.
