Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
This Easter I am planning to run the length of Hadrian's wall starting at Bowness-on-Solway on the west coast, over-shooting the end of the wall at Wallsend in Newcastle, and continuing on to one of my favourite places: Tynemouth on the east coast. It is a journey of somewhere between 90 and 100 miles, depending on which way I potter through the sites of Newcastle!
I have been thinking about this trip for a while. It gives me the opportunity to visit one of my favourite parts of the country, the north east coast. It also gives me the challenge of doing something all by myself, a chance to both explore and to reflect.
It is with this in mind that I have decided to give my trip a little bit of extra purpose and raise money for the Leicester branch of the Samaritans in memory of a colleague and friend, Miguel de Veasey. Miguel was a vibrant and inspiring person who I watched motivate hundreds of primary school children as their Spanish teacher over the past 5 years. Sadly, Miguel took his own life at the end of last year.
Over the past few months, Miguel's wonderful, and equally inspiring, partner Georgie has been doing amazing work to raise money for the Samaritans. It is becoming more and more evident to me just how many people, like Miguel, are battling everyday with their own personal struggles. Everyone needs to know that support is available to them, whenever and wherever they need it, and the Samaritans provide a valuable service.
