Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

As you may know, this summer I am planning on cycling 800 miles across the Himalayan Kingdom of Bhutan. The expedition will last 11 days in which myself and 17 other 16-17 year-old boys will spend up to 10 hours in the saddle with climbs up to 2000ft on some days. This challenge is not one that can be undertaken lightly, and after two training expeditions (560 km in 5 days, 740 km in 6 days) through the Peak District and Brecon Beacons my fitness is steadily increasing. With 3 rides a week leading up to July, maintaining my fitness will be crucial. This is not a race but simply a challenge of endurance in which preserving health is the key. This venture has never been undertaken by anyone under the age of 25 before!

I have consequently decided to use this fantastic opportunity to support those less fortunate than myself. I have chosen to support 4 main children's charities (all linked together under the name of "Hike or Bike for Children") which help children with disabilities and from underprivileged backgrounds. The charities are Barnados, Dreams Come True, Kith and Kids and MedEquip4Kids. I feel extremely privileged to be in such good health and to have received the education that I have, and through these charities it is my way of giving something to those who are seriously in need.

I hope you agree that this is a very challenging expedition and worthy cause, and all of your support will be very greatly appreciated.

Rory

Just to give you an idea of what your money can do:

£5 a month could pay for a child trying to escape abuse to have 2 hot meals at a Barnardo’s project every month.

£50 will buy a piece of sensory play equipment, such as a bubble machine for a child with severe disabilities to enjoy.

£105 could pay for a prevention education group to help a group of young people to develop the skills and knowledge to prevent sexual exploitation.
