Story

Hi, Thankyou for visiting my just giving page, on the 27th September my 2 year old little boy Rory was diagnosed with leukaemia, 12 weeks later, on the 19th December he fell to sleep in my arms in Manchester childrens hospital ICU. At one point in his 5 week fight on ICU Rory’s heart rate was past 180 BPM for over 48 hours, he ran a marathon for over 2 days. He had that strength.

After Rory fell to sleep I knew the only place I needed Rory to go wasn’t a mortuary or a funeral home in a sealed coffin.

It was the Derian house sunflower room. This is a special purposely built bedroom set at a very cold temperature. Allowing family to say goodbye in a bedroom setting. Fortunately for me they had a bedroom for Rory. Ironically, it was the exact same cot he has at home in his bedroom here.

Rory led in his cot, with his own pillow and duvet, surrounded by the teddy’s and books he loved for 10 days. I slept next to him, I held him close to me. Derian house gave me that time I needed to be his mummy for those last days.

It also allowed family who had been apart from him for 3 months to come and see him and say goodnight, read him his books and be with him.

I can never thank Derian enough for the support they have shown myself and my husband and the continued support they offer to us and our other little boy Noah. They have given Noah a beautiful place to come to, with memorial gardens to remember Rory.

Derian came into our lives at without a shadow of a doubt the darkest time we will ever go through, but I leave with only beautiful memories, of my baby boy and the staff.

For this reason, In my hazy brain fog, I decided to sign up to the Manchester marathon and exclusively fundraise for Derian House. You can’t put a price on what they have done for my family but it may go a small way. I have persuaded my husband and best friend to come along for the ride, and half of my husbands family too!

Disclaimer - I hate running. As I mentioned in my brief description about Rory, he in theory ran a marathon for 2 days. I can do it for 5 hours … I’m not going to be breaking any world records for speed put it that way!!

He will be with me every step of the way … please join me by helping me give back to Derian. I sincerely hope you never have to need Derian, but my god, what a magical place it is 🤍

Love you Rory Tiger 🤍🐯
